The email asks that users provide their full name, current address, phone number, nearest airport, and occupation to be able to pick up the box.
These types of scams usually try to phish as much personal information as possible. If users engage with the emails, the scammers will also eventually come up with a reason to ask for money. For example, they may claim that the package is stuck in customs and requires a payment to be released.
Users’ personal information is a hot commodity among cybercriminals because it allows them to perform elaborate scams and target them with sophisticated malware campaigns. The phished personal information ends up on various hacker forums for other cybercriminals to buy.
