What is SDFRd.sys?
If you are a curious user and go to check all folders on your computer, you might discover SDFRd.sys. You do not need to worry if this file is located in the Windows folder. Speaking specifically, this file is not harmful if you have found it in %WINDIR%\System32\drivers. Unfortunately, we cannot say the same about it if it is located in a different folder.
In such a case, the chances are high that malware has borrowed the name of the legitimate Windows file and uses it to hide itself. If it turns out to be true, i.e. you find out that the file you have found on your system is one of the components of malicious software, you should uninstall SDFRd.sys as soon as possible. Unfortunately, it does not mean that the SDFRd.sys removal will disable the infection you have active on your computer, but you should still start its deletion by erasing this file.
What does SDFRd.sys do?
As you should already know, SDFRd.sys is one of the Windows OS components if you have found it in %WINDIR%, meaning that it helps the operating system work properly. On the other hand, it is hard to say what it is responsible for if it is a part of malicious software you have installed on your computer. You must disable that infection as soon as possible because it might perform a number of malicious activities behind your back. For example, if you do not get rid of malware soon, it might steal personal information about you. Also, it might install plenty of new threats on your computer illegally. Last but not least, you might notice that it is impossible to perform daily activities, e.g. surf the web and use certain programs. You should start the removal of malicious software by going to delete SDFRd.sys, but, frankly speaking, we do not think that it is the only file of this threat. In other words, it is not very likely that you will disable malicious software by implementing the SDFRd.sys removal. You will find out how to delete all files belonging to malware from your computer easily if you continue reading this article.
Why have I found SDFRd.sys on my computer?
There must be one of two reasons why you have discovered SDFRd.sys on your computer. First, you are using Windows OS, and it is a legitimate file belonging to it. In this case, you do not need to remove SDFRd.sys from your computer as it is a harmless file. Second, you have malware installed on your computer. The chances are high that this file belongs to malware if you have found it outside the %WINDIR% directory. In such a case, get rid of it as soon as possible.
How do I delete SDFRd.sys?
You should be able to remove SDFRd.sys easily, i.e. select it and press Delete on your keyboard, but, of course, there is no need to do this if it is a legitimate file. If it has already turned out that it belongs to malware, you might need to kill the malicious process in Task Manager too so that you could delete it. Keep in mind that the infection that has infiltrated your computer might have other files too. You must delete them all.
