How to Repair Microsoft Account

You can run into all kinds of errors when using your computer. One of the more irritating ones is the one asking you to fix your Microsoft account because there are quite a few possible fix methods.

Below you will find 8 methods that should do the job and fix the Repair Microsoft Account error.

Method 1. Use a different log in method

This method is the easiest one because all you need to do is log in using a different method. If you were using your local password when logging into your Windows 10, use your Microsoft ID and password to log in. If you were using your PIN, then use your regular password. If this did not help you, try the following methods.

 Method 2. Verify your account

Windows may not be able to verify your identity and thus is causing the error to pop up. To verify your account, follow the  instructions provided below:

  1. Press the Windows key + I to open Settings.
  2. Access Accounts and press Your info.
  3. Under You need to verify your identity on this PC, click Verify.
  4. Select the method with which you wish to verify your account and press Next.
  5. Verify your account by following the provided instructions.

 Method 3. Check your account settings

Some of the configurations with your Microsoft account may be wrong, and that could cause the alert. Follow the below instructions to fix it.

  1. Windows key + I to open Settings.
  2. Select Account, then access Email & apps accounts. See if the provided information about you is right, if it is not, correct it.
  3. (Optional) Remove your email from ‘Accounts used by other apps’.

 Method 4. Convert Microsoft account to a local one

If the above methods have not helped, you can try converting your Microsoft account into a local one.

  1. Windows key + I to open Settings.
  2. Accounts -> Your info.
  3. If you scroll down to the bottom, you will find a Sign with a local account instead section. Select it.
  4. Enter your password in the window that pop ups, and press Next.
  5. Fill out the required information and press Next.
  6. Exit the window.

You will also need to sign in to your Windows store with your Microsoft account and convert the local account back to a Microsoft account.

  1. Windows key + I to open Settings.
  2. Select Accounts and then Your info, and press Sign in with a Microsoft account instead.
  3. Enter your local password and press Next.
  4. Fill in the Microsoft account sign-in information and press Next.
  5. Verify you account if you are asked to.
  6. Select Switch.

Method 5. Confirm your Microsoft Account security information

  1. Log into your Microsoft account and confirm your security information. You will be sent a code in order to verify your identity.

 Method 6. Change your Privacy Settings

Follow the provided instructions to change your Privacy Settings:

  1. Windows key + I to open Settings.
  2. Select General under Privacy.
  3. You will need to turn off the Let apps on my other devices open apps and continue experiences on this device and Let apps on my other devices use Bluetooth to open apps and continue experiences on this device.

 Method 7. Run the Microsoft Accounts troubleshooter

  1. Click here to download the troubleshooting tool.
  2. Open the troubleshooter, tick the Apply repairs automatically box and click Next.
  3. The troubleshooting tool will fix all that it can.

Method 8. Manually stop the message from appearing

This should be considered as a last resort because you’re not actually fixing the error, you’re merely making it go away.

  1. Windows key + r.
  2. A run box will appear, type in gpedit.msc and press OK to open Group Policy Editor.
  3. Select User Configuration, then Administrative Templates, Start Menu and Taskbar, and then Notifications.
  4. In the various options that appear on the right, find and double-click Turn off toast notifications.
  5. A window will pop up and you need to select Enable.
  6. Select Apply and then OK.
