What is Smilebox?
Smilebox is a program that allows you to create greetings, collages, invitations, slideshows, etc. Although it has some positive features, it falls into the potentially unwanted and ad-supported software category. The app can alter your browser settings, insert ads into them, cause slow downs, and more. These are the main reasons why users usually decide to get rid of Smilebox. Although it is not a malign program, there is also no reason for you to tolerate the inconveniences that it causes.
How does Smilebox work?
Smilebox application may be promoted on its official website, but that does not mean that that is how it ended up in your system. Like most other potentially unwanted programs, it employs the bundling distribution method. The app attaches itself to other freeware and arrives onto computers unnoticed as an additional component. Although it is possible to avoid it, most computer users do not pay close attention to the software they install, so they automatically agree to all additional offers. We recommend that you choose the Advanced installation mode in the wizard and decline all optional offers presented to you during the setup.
Once installed, Smilebox changes your browser settings. Your home page and default search provider get replaced by Mystart.smilebox.com. The search engine will bring you sponsored search results, and you may also see ads on the website itself. In addition to these modifications, you will have an increase in the number of ads appearing on various domains you visit. Some of these ads will be based on your Internet browsing history. Needless to say, these advertisements are not monitored by the application, which means that you click on them at your own risk. They could be unsafe and lead to you websites containing scams. If you wish to avoid getting exposed to virtual scams, you should terminate Smilebox.
How to remove Smilebox?
You can delete Smilebox from your computer manually through Control Panel. Afterwards, you will also need to restore your browser settings.
