About this infection
Search.yahoo.com is a legitimate search website that belongs to Yahoo. It’s fully safe to use, however, there are reports that it becomes the homepage/default search engines on browsers without the permission of the users. Usually, browser hijacker infections are to blame. They are rather minor infections that users pick up when when installing free programs. They are not malicious, more annoying that anything really.
They make unauthorized changes to browsers, set their promoted websites as homepages and try to redirect to sponsored content. Hijackers are employed by website owners to generate traffic to their sites, so that owners can make more revenue. Many hijackers set the Yahoo search websites as the homepage, or implant the search engine into their own sites, and while it’s a legitimate search engine, if you did not set it yourself, there is a problem. You are free to use it as much as you want, but if your settings were changed by a browser hijacker, you need to get rid of it. Remove Search.yahoo.com redirect causing hijacker.
Browser hijackers are usually obtained when users install free programs and do not pay attention to how they do it. Since hijackers, among other infections, are attached in a way that allows them to install alongside, it’s important that you deselect them. We will exp0lain how to do this in the following paragraph.
How to avoid browser hijackers?
Like we said above, browser hijackers come attached to freeware as extra offers, which you need to deselect. Fortunately, it’s not difficult to avoid these infections. All you need to do is pay attention to what you are doing. First of all, choose Advanced or Custom settings when installing programs. Those settings will make all added offers visible, and you will be given the options of deselecting all of them. After you have unchecked all the boxes, you can continue installing the program. Default settings will not show you anything, so avoid using them when Advanced is available. While these infections are not serious, you’ll still need to get rid of them later on. And it’s much easier to prevent them in the first place, rather than having to remove them later.
Should you delete Search.yahoo.com redirect?
The redirect will take over all your browsers, whether you are using Internet Explorer, Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox. Once the settings have been changed, you will be unable to reverse them until you get rid of the hijacker. This can be quite annoying, and not all users understand what is going on. As a result, they might choose to keep the hijacker, not knowing that they have an infection, however minor it may be. This website is popular among a lot of hijackers so there is a whole list of possible culprits. It does not really matter which one you have, you’ll still need to get rid of it. Until you do, be careful of sponsored content and ads inserted into the results. They could lead completely unrelated or even malicious sites. Do not trust a hijacker to provide you secure results because you could end up with malware if you do.
We’ve said that this website is legitimate, but the hijacker has take away your choice, and that should not be tolerated. After you get rid of the infection, you will be free to reverse the setting modifications or alter them however you want.
