How to remove Fast! PUP

Fast! is advertised as a system optimizer that will speed up the computer but it’s classified as a potentially unwanted program (PUP) because of its deceptive installation methods. It may also show fake scan results to pressure users into purchasing a premium subscription. While the program may initially seem like it could be useful, we don’t recommend using it, or keeping it if you find it installed on your device.

System optimizers like Fast! are often classified as potentially unwanted programs (PUPs) because of their questionable behavior and deceptive installation methods. Programs like Fast! use a method known as software bundling to install. This method allows programs to essentially install behind users’ backs. To put it simply, programs like Fast! come attached to free software as extra offers and are set to install alongside automatically, unless users take the time to manually deselect them.

Fast! is promoted as a system optimization tool that claims it can improve the computer’s performance. When users first install it, the program will scan the computer and show results with various issues. Whether the detected issues are actually issues is debatable, but solving them is unlikely to improve your computer’s performance. If you want to use the program to solve the detected issues, you will be asked to first purchase a subscription. A program first asking users to purchase a subscription before allowing access to full features is not unusual but system optimizers often show fake or exaggerated results. Furthermore, once subscribed, it may be difficult to cancel the subscription.

In general, system optimizers (even legitimate ones) rarely have any effect on users’ computers. They claim to be able to speed up devices by removing large files, freeing up space, removing certain registry entries, etc. But unless you’re using a very old device that lags because there’s no space left on it, a system optimizer will have little to no effect. Furthermore, we should warn you that system optimizers can delete necessary registry entries, which could result in you needing to reinstall your Windows.

While the program may seem like it could be useful, we don’t recommend you use it. if you find it installed on your computer, remove Fast! PUP, preferably using an anti-virus program.

How did Fast! potentially unwanted program install

The Fast! potentially unwanted program and similar programs are often advertised on various download sites as useful programs that can speed up users’ computers. You may also encounter advertisements promoting them. It’s strongly recommended to always research programs prior to installing them. Even a simple search with Google or another search engine is often enough to determine whether a program is safe to download and install.

It’s also common for these programs to be installed via a method known as software bundling. The way it works is potentially unwanted programs like Fast! are added to free programs as extra offers. These offers are set to be installed alongside the programs they’re attached to automatically unless users manually deselect them. The offers are technically optional but they need to be manually deselected to prevent their installations. Because the offers are hidden in settings users don’t normally use, the offers go unnoticed most of the time, which allows them to install.

The offers are optional and can easily be deselected as long as you pay attention when installing programs. During installation, when given the option, choose Advanced (Custom) settings instead of Default. The installation window always recommends using Default but those settings will hide all offers and allow them to install. However, if you opt for Advanced (Custom) settings, the offers will be made visible and you will be given the option to deselect them. You simply need to uncheck the boxes. Some offers may seem useful at first but allowing any of them to install would be a mistake. Legitimate programs do not use software bundling to install because it’s a deceptive installation method. Programs that do are often detected as potential threats by anti-virus programs.

Fully installed adware, browser hijackers, and PUP infections can be troublesome to get rid of, it’s considerably easier to just uncheck a couple of boxes when installing programs.
